A Little About Me

When I was about 8 years-old, my father set up a small darkroom in our house. I remember sitting off to the side on a stool, in the orange glow of the safe-light, mesmerized as he would slide a sheet of blank paper into the developer tray, and moments later, the image would magically appear.  I was hooked.  Somewhere along the line, I got my first Kodak Instamatic which took the 126 cartridge film (and flash-cubes!) and we were off to the races. Eventually I graduated to a hand-me-down Nikkormat, and a long line of Nikon SLR's and DSLR's followed. I still have most of them. Since people always ask about gear, I always say the best camera is the one I have in my hand. Often, these days, that's a phone, which was good enough for the pic above. Whatever you have, get out and take some pics. 

To this day, I still find the process magical. While I graduated from trays of chemicals to pixels some time ago, it's still about the magic of capturing a moment. Landscape has always been my go-to, and there's a joy in exploring the outdoors, getting some fresh-air, and looking for that perfect moment- and hopefully capturing something unique. 

Nowadays, looking to learn and expand, I'm finding time explore new areas of photography. Whether its concert photography (my obsession with live music is a whole other story), macro, still life, or delving into headshot and event photography, I continue to learn and evolve. I actually like the humbling process of trying something new, stinking at it, and challenging myself to evolve. It's not always pretty, but as they say, sometimes it's more about the journey than the destination.
